Insertion of the structure was done with heavy equipment and under high precision. A pontoon crane transported the 60 meter long and 125 tons weighting bridge over 300 meters from southern quay of the inland port to insertion point. According to information from Riesa port authority the new bridge was planned similar to road bridge inside port basin with minimal vertical clearance of 6,50 meters above highest navigable water level. This fact should ensure no further constraints to inland shipping at river Elbe.

Through World War II old port bridge was demolished in the year of 1945. Due to delay in cause of winter influences construction project continues right now. The whole project costs about 1,52 millions EURO. It is financed by funds of land Saxony and city of Riesa and by donation of a non-profit association. The bridge will be officially opened on June 3rd 2011 within a folk festival. With this construction a gap of the Elberadweg, a significant part for tourism in this region, will be closed.
