Inland navigation made heavy cargo transport easy

Power transformer on the way along river Elbe from Dresden to Cuxhaven

Inland motor vessel “Domfels” arrived at port of Cuxhaven on July 12th loaded with a power transformer from Dresden. The cargo with 149 tons of unit weight dedicated to South Shield in England. The transformer will be used for the wind offshore project Lincs.



Under leading management of Cuxport handling took place at berth 8 by travelling bridge (500 tons lifting capacity) from barge to heavy cargo truck. Without further exceptional permission or supporting vehicle transport continues on heavy cargo road to a roll-on/roll-off ramp. Special vessel equipment carried it to British Immingham in about 18 hours. The last part of this voyage were executed by truck to South Shields.

At the beginning of month July this transport started at port Alberthafen of Dresden (river kilometre 60,80). After loading procedure with mobile crane an 80 meter motor vessel transported the transformer 660 kilometres from Saxony to Cuxhaven to following shipping.
