Elbeport Wittenberge documents incessant handling volume

Inland port reached level of previous year

According to Elbeport GmbH own statement the port of Wittenberge reports positive trade accounts for the first three quarters of 2012. About 70,000 tons of bulk cargo and 1,500 container could be handled to rail, road and waterway by the inland port. Despite of decreasing numbers in loading of liquid cargo those missing quantity could be compensated. Those responsible are reckoning increase of over 100,000 tons of bulk cargo for the upcoming year. They are also carry on negotiations with further interested companies to enforce handling of liquid goods. There are existing plans to built a fuel depot at the port.

The multi modal Elbe port is also used by other modes of transport. Frequent container trains operate between Wittenberge, Hamburg and Bremerhaven. The inland port organizes the complete transport chain from the German seaports to the region around Prignitz. Furthermore the ElbePort GmbH is planning logistic concepts for the loading of project cargo.

The inland port will be prepared for the near future as a multi-purpose-terminal. About 3,8 million Euro will be invested to the port area at the next year. A by-pass road and additional rail strings will be built. An investment to a multi functional crane for handling of different types of cargo is planned as well as a larger settlement at the port area.

The inland port of Wittenberge is connected to the hinterland by waterway, rail and road since the year of 2011. Main shareholder of the 2009 founded ElbePort Wittenberge GmbH are Carl Robert Eckelmann AG, Eggers Umwelttechnik and the Hamburg Buss Group. The inland port contains 1.5 hectare surface with expansive capacities for loading of bulk, piece, project cargo and container.
